Safety & The Hospital

Hospital ABC Santa Fe was founded in 1886 and holds JCI accreditation — the same international standard as Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, and Johns Hopkins. In 2024, it became the first hospital in Mexico to receive MAGNET® recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the gold standard in nursing excellence. CAP-accredited pathology laboratory. All private rooms. The facility, the protocols, and the oversight are world-class. What changes is the level of specialization available to you — and the warmth of the team around you.

BIA-ALCL is a rare lymphoma associated primarily with textured breast implants — not breast cancer. Allergan voluntarily recalled all BIOCELL textured implants in 2019. Over 90% of cases — when manufacturer history is known — involve that specific surface. If you have textured implants — regardless of symptoms — a specialist evaluation is worthwhile. Dr. Baley performs complete capsulectomy and sends all tissue to pathology as standard practice.

BII describes systemic symptoms — fatigue, brain fog, joint pain, hair loss — reported by patients with breast implants. The FDA has logged over 10,000 reports and now requires informed consent discussion of these symptoms. A 2025 meta-analysis of 6,048 patients found 81.9% reported improvement after explant. Dr. Baley takes BII seriously and treats each case individually — without minimization, without dismissal. Read more about BII →

Procedures

En bloc means removing the implant and capsule as a single intact unit. It is recommended when malignancy is suspected and preferred by many patients with BII concerns. Not everyone requires it — the right approach depends on capsule condition, implant history, and symptom presentation. Dr. Baley will assess your specific situation and give you a clear recommendation during your consultation.

Yes. Dr. Baley performs primary breast augmentation for patients who have never had implants, as well as repeat augmentation for those who have had a prior explant and want to consider new implants. He works with multiple manufacturers — Polytech, Motiva, Mentor, and Eurosilicon — and recommends based entirely on your anatomy and goals, not brand loyalty. The rePlantation® protocol specifically uses Polytech PU for clinical reasons — lower capsular contracture rates and the B-Lite weight option — but that is one tool among many.

Yes. Breast reduction (reduction mammoplasty) is part of Dr. Baley's full-spectrum practice. It addresses macromastia — excessively large breasts that cause back and neck pain, posture problems, skin irritation, and physical limitation. No implants are used. The procedure reshapes the breast comprehensively, with preserved sensation and breastfeeding potential where anatomy allows. A mastopexy (breast lift) can also be combined with reduction depending on your goals.

Logistics & Travel

Plan for 7–10 days in Mexico City. Most patients are cleared to fly 5–7 days post-op, after a final pre-departure visit with Dr. Baley. Drains are removed before you leave. A private driver takes care of airport logistics. Expect 2–3 weeks of limited activity once you're home.

Many patients travel alone — it is manageable and well-supported. A private driver meets you at the airport. The Hyatt House is connected to the hospital by sky bridge, so you never need to navigate unfamiliar streets post-operatively. Dr. Baley's team stays in contact throughout your stay and coordinates any additional support you need. That said, having a companion for the first 2–3 days of recovery makes a meaningful difference in comfort. If traveling alone, we plan your support accordingly.

Recovery varies by procedure. For a standard explant: most patients feel well enough to move around on day 2–3, cleared to fly on day 5–7, return to desk work within 1–2 weeks at home, and light activity at 4–6 weeks. For explant + fat grafting or rePlantation®, add 2–3 days to the on-site recovery window. All patients receive video follow-up at 2 weeks, 6 weeks, and 6 months post-op. The first year includes open access to Dr. Baley by message for any questions.

Yes — and we encourage it. Your companion is welcome at the pre-op meeting, at the hospital, and the Hyatt House is designed for exactly this. Having someone with you during recovery makes the experience significantly easier — and in Mexico City, there's plenty to keep them comfortable while you rest. Santa Fe is a genuinely excellent district: Parque La Mexicana, Nobu, Sonora Grill, and Centro Santa Fe are all within walking or short driving distance.

Cost & Access

US and Canadian coverage varies. Some plans cover explant when medically indicated — BIA-ALCL, confirmed rupture, severe capsular contracture. Most classify it as elective for BII. We provide full surgical documentation and pathology reports that can support your insurance claim.

Polytech polyurethane implants are German-engineered and certified under EU MDR Class III — the most rigorous medical device standard in the world. They have not pursued FDA approval for the US market. This is not a safety issue; it is a commercial decision. Access to this technology is the primary clinical reason patients travel to Dr. Baley for rePlantation® — his proprietary protocol combining implant replacement with autologous fat transfer.

Pricing depends on procedure and complexity, and is discussed transparently during your free consultation. All-inclusive fees at ABC Santa Fe — anesthesia, hospital, and post-op included — are significantly lower than equivalent costs in the US, without any reduction in surgical expertise or facility standard.

That's one of the most common procedures here. Pure explant with natural tissue recontouring. You will not be steered toward fat grafting or reimplantation. The right decision is the one that fits your goals and your anatomy — Dr. Baley will recommend what he genuinely believes is best for you.
